1978 Argosy Motorhome For Sale 24'

1978 Airstream Argosy Motorhome 24'
St Petersburg, FL
$4,000

1978 24' Argosy Motorhome made by Airstream for sale. Engine: Chevy 454 on P30 Chassis. Engine runs, carburetor recently re-built, new ignition and new exterior door keys made. New Battery. Have original manuals and Ohio Title.   The rooftop A/C unit runs cold. Original Onan 4.0 BFA turns but does not fire, have not spent any time troubleshooting it.  Have not tested the propane system, stove or heater. Odometer reads as 103,312. The engine needs a hose that connects the hydrobooster to the master cylinder.  A hydrobooster hydraulically connects the breaks and power steering to add a brake boost.  Currently there is no power steering or power brakes. We purchased a new master cylinder still in box that goes with it in case it needs replacing.  We can move it around the yard but it's not safe to drive without power steering/brakes. It will need to be towed to your destination.

Coach:
New bathroom faucet and unit has running water in the bathroom and kitchen. Comes with new shower head, hose and faucet still in packaging. Also comes with a stainless steel sink we intended to put in the bathroom. The original toilet is seized and won't flush, may need to be replaced. The interior and exterior lights work.  The original Dometic refrigerator worked a few months ago but now does not get cold, the switch knob has been gone for awhile and the switch spindle is in pretty bad shape, it may just need a new switch mechanism.   The original oven was replaced with a 70s microwave by previous owner. It has an original optional CB radio and 8 Track cassette player. Either don't appear to work but we haven't looked at them closely to resolve, both come with original manuals. The radio works. The dash slide gauge adjustments are stiff, they are the older cable style so need cleaned up to work right.  Because of this it is impossible to tell if the AC works or not.

The original carpeting in the salon was removed and we laid down floating temporary indoor/outdoor carpeting.  The salon sub floor has rot in the corners behind the driver and passenger seats but the metal floor braces are not damaged and are intact. Original carpeting in cockpit area.  We are of the opinion that the subfloor can be patched, most of it is in tact.

Comes with all new 5" thick blue lux foam sofa cushions. It has two sofa's that both turn into full size beds.  Sofa bed measurements are 74" x 42". I made cushion covers for one of the sofa's and have the other covers cut out and ready to be sewn. Also comes with the remaining 15+ yards of light yellow (chartreuse) chenille fabric and another 2 yards of brown and pink chenille fabric for piping.  New windshield cockpit curtains on slide tracks. All of the other windows have functioning curtains or shades.

Exterior:
Windows: Exterior driver side windows have been stripped and polished. Two windows have new felt but remaining window felt and exterior seals still need to be replaced. We have the remaining new felt and seals you need to complete the windows which are included. All windows have intact screens. The window behind the passenger seat leaks but that should be resolved when the felt and seals have been replaced.

There are no punctures in the exterior skin.  There are a couple of small dents and a few scrapes as one would expect with a motorhome of this age, and as with all Argosy MH's the front plastic bumper corners are cracked (replacements are available).  Comes with an exterior spare tire mounting bracket, a rim with blown spare on it. The tires still hold air but are due for replacing. Has original awning with some tearing, the vinyl fabric is pretty much rotten and gone but the awning hardware is in working order.

The exterior paint can be stripped and polished like a regular Airstream however the upper front and end caps are made of steel so those would need to stay painted.

We bought it a year ago with intentions of a full restore but decided to buy a newer RV after a death in the family as we didn't want to wait any longer to get on the road.
